ARTIST RESEARCH

Mat Collinshaw : the garden of unearthly delights.

I really struggled to pick just one image of one of Collinshaws pieces to chose as my research image for this artist. So many of his works have provided me with inspiration, I eventually chose this one as it was the first piece I had seen of his work and the wonder and excitement that this piece filled me with, is what I want people to feel when they view my work.
His work has many of the aesthetics that I aspire to, presenting sometimes unpleasant, horrific or disturbing subjects, in a way which is almost enchanting and etheral. I look to the standard of his work and presentation as something to aspire to.

Franko B : Performance at the Torture Garden 1994

I find Franko B's performances inspiring and interesting, I feel that he achieves an openess beyond nakedness in this picture, which is a favourite inspiration of mine. By exposing his bodily fluids, he is more naked and more vulnerable. I find the concept of including medical interventions in my performances very interesting and I use it as a way of expressing my emotions, fears, memories and fetishes surrounding hospitals and medical equiptment.
